work experience
Institute for Demographic and Socioeconomic Research (IDSER)
As an undergraduate work study, I helped one of IDSER's researchers by writing a Python program that interacted with the Census Bureau's API and manipulated the necessary data to create graphs and figures for these memos. IDSER ultimately did not use this program, but it was an excellent exercise in coding/understanding how Census data plays into transportation planning. The code I wrote can be viewed here.
Currently, I'm helping Dr. Lloyd Potter gather data for focus groups. The scope entails determining how to effectively engage disadvantaged communities (BIPOC, people with disabilities, etc.) so that they may participate/voice their concerns on TxDOT projects. Other research includes finding methodologies better suited to effectively measure segregation within urban and rural areas.
